Fredericton, NB / Ottawa, ON (June 22, 2020) -- Player Character Evaluations are standard practice in professional sports. How evaluations are performed varies between scouts, teams and leagues. Mike Medici, area scout for the Texas Rangers used the Avrij Analytics Application for his 2020 MLB Draft Evaluations. “Mike needed a tool for his player research, and we needed feedback from a user in Major League Baseball,” said Garfield Fisher, CEO, Avrij Analytics. “As an experienced scout with the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, and as an entrepreneur, Mike was able to quickly challenge much of what I assumed from my work with teams in the NFL.”
Mike has evaluated hundreds of athletes while working first with the Toronto Blue Jays and now with the Texas Rangers. Increasingly, these player evaluations include insights about an athlete’s off-field interests. “When athletic abilities are similar between players, often the recommendation comes down to basic player character. Often it starts with wanting to know what the athletes’ interests are outside of the game,” said Mike Medici.
The five-round, two-day 2020 MLB Draft was on June 10. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, there were significant changes to this year’s player evaluation, recommendation and contract processes. “These changes meant player character evaluations were even more important,” said Mike. “This year left very little room for uncertainty in the value a player could bring to the team.”
Mike will continue to consult with Avrij Analytics as new applications are developed for the 2021 MLB Draft. “Mike is an amazing person, talented scout and a valuable sounding board for me as I talk to investors about expanding our reach in the College, Professional and eSports markets,” said Carmen McKell, CFO, Avrij Analytics.
